Not To Reason Why - Book Of Hours LP
pianosbecometheteeth:
Our best friends in Not To Reason Why just put up their record in the Topshelf Webstore. Probably one of the best bands we have ever had the opportunity to play with and become friends with. Do yourself a favor and pick it up. Guaranteed that you won’t regret it. http:// www.topshelfrecords.bigcartel.com/product/not-to-reason-why-the-book-of-hours-ep

We made it to Kansas city in a light rain by the time the sun went down and you called before you went to sleep with a voice much warmer than the night that wrapped around us and the precipitation that was slowly crystallizing. It made me think of the exit sign that points towards home.
From the highway, Hays looked no less grey than the clouds that followed us since Colorado. Black birds lined the sky ahead of us and collected in the bushes by the on ramps. We passed at 70 miles per hour and i didn’t bother watching the silver side of the exit sign shrink in the rear view mirror. I didn’t wave either. But i thought of my dad in some dry Kansas summer decelerating...
It was a couple miles til then and i thought of my dad and anyone else than my mother. Thought of the lives we wind around individual cities and that we stretch across the highways that connect them. Thought of what id tell my kids about this. About you. What exit will i wave at and think of you? Will there be an exit?
He probably knew i was thinking of you. Told me to make sure to wave when we passed Hays. Said there was a girl he used to drive out from Kentucky to visit.
Dad called around mile marker 50 while the passenger seat was rocking me to sleep just to see if we made it out of Denver. We barely did. I almost lost a shoe in the snow and my ankles were still red. My wet socks damp and darkening the crookedly placed tan carpet beneath the glove compartment.
Driving through Kansas on I 70, trails of blackbirds snaked high and perpendicular to the broken lines we traced. Dipped dangerously at our windshield like tiny lances aimed at suicide. Lost in the dust of collected snow and dry saline on either side, migrations without future or past.
well shit. i picked a hell of a day to download that lana del rey album.

Across this country, I’ve seen crowded rooms of anxious people ready to participate, ready to express themselves, ready to engage. It seems like all of us are always ready to be heard, but this world is so rarely prepared to hear us. Yet every once in a while, a clear opportunity arises. Marriage…
